Fun Teen Trips

Escape Room

Drop-off / Pick-up: Oakbrook Terrace Park District • 1S325 Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park
It’s a race against time as players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints and strategy to complete the objectives at hand to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the room. The escape room is in Downers Grove, but will meet at the Oakbrook Terrace Park District where transportation will be provided. Spots are limited due to the room restriction so sign up while they are still available! Age: 12-16.

Self Defense Seminar

Drop-off / Pick-up: Bolingbrook Park District • 201 Recreation Drive, Bolingbrook
This workshop is designed to be extremely effective in teaching girls how to protect themselves. The central focus is to create an extremely safe learning environment while ensuring high quality service. All instructors are members of the Bolingbrook Police Department. Training includes practicing in full force self-defense techniques on a padded instructor as well as everyday safety skills which focus on awareness and prevention skills. The workshop emphasizes techniques that can stop an attack without violence. Age: 10-15.

NOTE: All workshops involve physical practice, role plays and stories to teach skills. Students should wear athletic clothing and gym shoes.

Skate Party at Darien Sportsplex

Drop-off / Pick-up: Darien Sportsplex • 451 Plainfield Road, Darien
Head over to the Darien Sportsplex and join your friends for some skating. Fee includes 2-hours of skate time, skate rental, and coupon to use at the concession stand. Come join the fun on the ice with your friends! Age: 11-17.

Ski & Snowboarding Trips

Alpine Valley Ski / Snowboard Trip

Depart / Return Location: Westmont Community Center • 75 E. Richmond St., Westmont
Trip Location: East Troy, WI
Spend the day off school skiing or snowboarding at Alpine Valley Ski Resort. This popular resort features 90 skiable acres featuring over 20 runs for beginner to advanced, plus 3 terrain parks. Trip includes transportation, lift-ticket, and helmet. Food is available for purchase at the resort. Age: 11-16.

NOTE: Please bring additional money for food and a locker if needed. A signed waiver must be completed and turned in at time of registration.

Chestnut Mountain Ski / Snowboarding Trip

Depart / Return Location: Lisle Recreation Center - 1925 Ohio Street, Lisle
Trip Location: Galena, IL
Chestnut Mountain’s slopes are meant for all levels of skiers and boarders to enjoy. Their 475-foot vertical drop meanders 3,500 feet through 19 runs, ranging from novice to black diamond. 475 feet seems pretty steep, but don’t worry, they have two quad chairs, four triple chairs, two conveyor lifts and one surface lift to get you back to the top. Any way you slice it; there will be plenty to do on your day off of school. Are you a first timer? No problem! You can take a group lesson and be skiing or snowboarding on your own in no time. Chestnut Mountain even offers a variety of food options at their concession stand or restaurant. Food will be on your own. Age: 11-17.

Job & College Prep Programs

Babysitting Skills for Success

Lisle Recreation Center • 1925 Ohio Street, Lisle
Learn the characteristics of successful babysitting while taking part in discussion and role-playing activities. This class will cover skills such as how to properly handle accidents and emergencies while providing basic first aid care, child development, diapering, feeding and playing with children. CPR is covered although students will not be ‘certified.’ Student handbook and reference materials are included. Students receive a certificate after completing the 8-hour class. Age: 10-15

Note:Please bring a doll and a snack.

Teen Job Fair

Westmont Community Center • 75 E. Richmond St., Westmont
What are you going to do this summer? Need some extra cash? The summer job search starts now! On Friday, February 23, all job seekers, ages 15-22, are invited to the Westmont Park District to meet with local park district’s that will have representatives available to tell you about their employment opportunities. Fill out an application on site, or take it home with you. Come prepared to ask and answer questions. You can also register for our interview/application training class to gain valuable knowledge on how to prepare an effective application or resume. Find out the most common mistakes teens are making during the job search and interview process. Learn how social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are used by employers to find out about you before you get an interview. Remember, you never get a second chance to make a first impression! There is a fee for the training class, but the job fair is free. Districts that will be present at the job fair include Lisle, Downers Grove, Bolingbrook, Westmont, Oakbrook Terrace, Clarendon Hills, Darien, and Woodridge. Age: 15-22

Note: The job fair is FREE, but registration is required for the Interview/ Application Training.

Junior High After Hours

It's the best thing around on a Friday night!

Location: Lisle Jr. High School - 5207 Centre Avenue, Lisle

It’s the best thing around on a Friday night. Call all your friends and meet them at Lisle Junior High School to play basketball or dance with the DJ as he plays all of your favorite songs. After Hours is for Jr. High students residing in Lisle.

Students must have an After Hours card to enter. Cards may be purchased at the Lisle Park District Recreation Center, Lisle Junior High School registration or day of at the entrance to After Hours. Students need to purchase a new After Hours card each school year. Grades: 6-8.

After Hours is open to any Jr. High student located in the Lisle Park District Community and is not restricted to Lisle Jr. High students. It is fully supervised by the Lisle Park District. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Liz Jayne at 630-353-4306 or

Teen Service Projects

Feed My Starving Children

Depart/Return: Lisle Recreation Center - 1925 Ohio Street, Lisle
Location: Feed My Starving Children • 555 Exchange Court, Aurora
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding children around the world in over 70 countries. Teens will volunteer and hand-pack meals to be sent to malnourished children. Fee covers transportation and supervision. Age: 12-17.

The Birches Assisted Living

The Birches provide their residents with the necessary resources to live a physically, mentally, and socially active life, so they can remain healthy, strong, and vibrant at any age. There are many events the facility schedules that provide recreation opportunities for the residents. Participating in volunteering for one of these events allows you to make a difference in the lives of these residents as well as have fun in the process! An additional perk is the community service hours that will be fulfilled in the process! Come out, have a great time and make a difference. Age: 12-17

If you’re searching for a way to earn some much needed service hours then your search is over. Come spend the morning with other teens for a work-day at the beautiful Lyman Woods Nature Center. Spanning 135 acres and two miles of trails, Lyman Woods connects people with nature and inspires appreciation and stewardship of natural areas through education and recreation. Age: 12-17.
